Abstract: This article systematically analyzes the primary driversbehind English's unprecedented global status as a lingua franca.Employing a qualitative research approach, it synthesizes insights fromsociolinguistics, history, economics, and cultural studies to delineate thekey factors. The findings reveal that English's global spread is notattributable to a single cause but rather a complex interplay of historicalcolonial legacies, post-World War II geopolitical shifts, enduringeconomic dominance, and pervasive cultural influence. The researchhighlights the self-reinforcing network effect and pragmatic utility ascrucial contemporary accelerators. Understanding these intertwinedmechanisms offers critical insights into current global communicationpatterns and future linguistic trends, providing a foundational analysisfor further sociolinguistic inquiry into language power dynamics.
