Annotatsiya
Abstract. Ecotourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growingsegments of the global travel industry, offering a responsible alternativeto conventional mass tourism. This article examines the definition,principles, benefits, and challenges of ecotourism, with reference toglobal case studies and policy frameworks. It argues that, when properlymanaged, ecotourism can serve as a powerful instrument forenvironmental conservation, local community empowerment, and crosscultural education. However, without rigorous standards andgovernance, it risks becoming a form of "greenwashing" that underminesits own objectives. The article concludes with recommendations forstakeholders — including governments, tour operators, and travelers —to ensure ecotourism fulfills its transformative potential.
