Abstract: This article focuses on the use of modal verbs beyondgrammar and meaning. It explains how they show speaker intention,politeness, and formality. The study distinguishes between epistemicmodality (possibility or certainty) and deontic modality (obligation orpermission). It also examines usage patterns and common errors byUzbek learners, highlighting the importance of context and real-lifecommunication.
