Annotatsiya
The development of clinical reasoning competence is central to the training of future physicians, especially in outpatient pediatrics, where the complexity of diagnosis requires analytical and problem-solving skills. This study aimed to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the problem-based learning (PBL) model in developing clinical reasoning among international medical students. The study, conducted at the Department of Pediatrics of the Fergana Medical Institute of Public Health, involved 135 physically and mentally healthy students, including 56 women, who were divided into a PBL-trained main group and a lecture-based control group. The assessment included an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE), written tests, and self-efficacy questionnaires. The results showed a 24.1% improvement in the SAT scores, a 19.0% improvement in the written test scores, and a 27% increase in self-confidence in the PBL group, which was significantly higher than the control group (p < 0.05). The results confirm that PBL is an effective method for improving clinical reasoning in outpatient pediatrics and should be more widely used in medical education programs.
